An Incredible Night in Swansea!
On Thursday 11th May Hakin travelled to Swansea to take on Penlan in the 2023 West Wales Intermediate Cup Final!
Jack Britton gave the Vikings an early lead, but 13 minutes from full time Darren Rowe equalised for Penlan, then minutes later substitute Joshua Newman danced his way inside the box to strike a low 12-yard drive in the back of net for a dramatic winner to break Hakin United hearts.
Nineteen years ago, was the last time Hakin United won the West Wales Intermediate Cup when then skipper Gary Dawes raised the cup, beating Swansea League outfit Brynawel 2-0 at the Vetch Field, the former home of Swansea City, despite leading for three quarters of the game it turned out to be not Scott Davies’ men's night.
With over 1000 in attendance it really was an incredible night.
Their defeat in the West Wales Cup final brings to a close what has been a long and incredible season for Hakin United.
The club has excelled on every level from juniors to the seniors and it is testament to all involved that things are being done brilliantly at the club, from coaches to players to every single member of the committee.
On their Facebook page Hakin said:-
"We would like to take this opportunity to thank our brilliant sponsors who support all age groups every season and most importantly our supporters, they are unrivalled.
We look forward to a nice break through the summer now and hopefully chance for everyone to recover from the season.
We are not one team, we are one club. "
