The Royal Oak, Saundersfoot

The Royal Oak, Saundersfoot

Earlier this month my family and I decided to go out for the day to Saundersfoot for lunch and being a large family of six, finding somewhere good to eat at prime lunchtime can be difficult.

On the way down I called The Royal Oak to see if they had a table to accommodate us. Lucky for us, they managed to move some things around and fit us in.

On arrival we were greeted by a young waiter who was both friendly and professional.

He showed us to our table and without asking provided 2 high chair which were much needed.

The lunchtime menu was very reasonable and included all your favourites including scampi and burgers, which have been getting rave reviews. They are made by Stuart the local butcher at Copper Hog in Saundersfoot and are made from 100% fillet steak.

As we had travelled from Letterston I thought I would go for something a bit special and had already clocked the table next to us had been served with mussel kettles and the smell was incredible.

I read through the menu until I got to "Posh Surf and Turf" which is as you would expect a quality sirloin steak accompanied by a half lobster, none of your chain pubs budget steak and a couple of over cooked scampi.

As they took our order I noticed a lobster bisque on the starters menu, so I opted to have that also.
The meal came, as I asked for all at the same time {Starter & Main}.

The Royal Oak Food

The bisque was shining with a swirl of fresh cream and chunks of fresh lobster. This was demolished in a few minutes.

Onto the main, the presentation made it too good to start to eat, however I started. The steak was cooked to perfection and pink throughout. The lobster perfectly cooked with and glazed in a herby butter.

These both sat on freshly cooked home made chips and accompanied by a tangy dressed salad. I ordered on the side a peppercorn sauce which I can only describe as "the best I have ever tasted".
There was no room for dessert.

To conclude, the Royal Oak will certainly be a hit with seafood lovers but they also do a "cracking" steak. Setting is perfect, probably a bit better in the summer, if you can get in that is! Value for money?
Absolutely, for the quality of the food, which The Royal oak always try and source locally! The bass and lobsters are all caught locally!

We will definitely be returning, thank you for a great meal!
